TORONTO – Representatives of Unifor`s energy unions have ratified the interim agreement, which sets the model for 8,500 members of the National Energy Program. The four-year collective agreement applies to Unifor members working in this sector across Canada. These include higher wages, severance pay and a new framework for combating domestic violence. Suncor was selected by Unifor as the chosen employer to define the model that will be put in place for the remaining employers in the energy sector. During the recruitment process, a Suncor recruiter can provide specific information about the impact that different union and association agreements can have on your compensation and performance. “Our energy members came together and used their collective power to make significant gains,” said Jerry Dias, President of Unifor National. “Energy workers are an important part of the Canadian economy.” The following residents will now ratify the agreements on the various sites that will determine the model: these workers deserve to participate in the rewards of one of the fastest growing companies in North America, and I think this interim agreement recognizes that,” said Russ Day President of Local 601. The contract includes salary increases of 2.5, 2.75, 3 and 3.5 per cent over the life of the contract as well as new provisions for overtime. According to the union, the new agreement is in line with the energy model contract negotiated by Unifor in May 2019. The national model between Unifor and Suncor has set out a framework for local negotiations on wages, severance pay and a new energy structure to combat domestic violence. The model includes 8,500 energy workers in five provinces.
